How to Compute Maternity Benefits in SSS?
Computing the maternity benefits in SSS is a bit of a complex task, but with the help of the example I have provided below, you can effortlessly compute. Before we start discussing the formulas and examples, you need to gather all the information of the last 12 months, including leaves, date of contingency, and your MSC.
You can also use online SSS
Example: Alexa works as a marketing manager in a car wash company. Her last 6 highest MSCs within 12 months are P12,000, P13,000, P14,000, P15,000, P16,000, and P17,000.
Step-by-Step Method to Compute Maternity Benefits
Step: Identify the expected due date.
Let’s say it is July 1st, 2024.
Formula to Calculate Maternity Benefits
Maternity benefit = (Average MSC ÷ 180) x number of paid leaves
Step 2: Exclude the semester of delivery.
Note: The 12-month period starts before 6 months of delivery and ends after 6 months of delivery. If the due date is July 2024 then December 2023 is the starting date and January 2025 is the ending date. Hence, the 12-month period is December 2023 to January 2025, excluding the month of delivery.
Step 3: Calculating average MSC.
P12,000 + P13,000 + P14,000 + P15,000 + P16,000 + P17,000 = P87,000
P87,000 / 6 = P12,500 Average MSC
Step 4: Calculating average daily salary.
Formula: Average MSC / 18 = Average Daily Salary
P145,000 / 18 = P806
Step 5: Calculating maternity benefits.
Maternity leaves in normal cases are 105.
The average daily salary is P806.
Maternity Leaves x Average Daily Salary = Maternity Benefits
105 x P806 = P84,630 is the maternity leave amount.

SSS Maternity Reimbursement How Long?
The last thing the majority of women are worried about during pregnancy is the maternity benefit. Some claim that their maternity benefit was 6 months late while others argue that their maternity benefit was not paid.
There are various factors that play a pivotal role in SSS maternity reimbursement duration, but one of the most significant is the responsibility of the employer.
Responsibility of Employer
It is the responsibility of the employer to give the money to an employee within 30 days of filling out the application. In case, the employer is unable to pay the reimbursement, an employee can take legal action against him. In short, it is paid within 30 days after submission of the application.
Sources claim that the amount is given by the employer in the beginning and then he claims the benefits from SSS. An employer has to provide the documents to SSS about the payment he has given to the employee. Later, the SSS finance department verifies the documents and releases funds.
SSS Maternity Leave Days
The maternity leave days depend upon a few factors, such as normal or solo maternity leaves. According to the SSS guidelines, the normal maternity days are 105 and the solo maternity days are 120, for a woman who has lost her partner or is separated from her partner.
Another condition is the miscarriage or emergency termination in which a subject can have 60 leaves. In optional cases, the maternity leaves can be increased based on the type of issue. In such cases, an employee can get 20 to 30 days of additional leave.

You can avail of maternity benefits if you meet the eligibility criteria and provide all the required documents. You need to apply for maternity benefits, so either you acquire an online method or you visit the office, you can get maternity benefits of P70,000 with 105 leave days.
